Chemainus Books is an independent books and publishing venture that brings together literature and the people who create it. We value stories that entertain, books that explain, and thoughtful writing that invites readers to consider something familiar in a different light.
The business is associated with the creative work of Steven Scanlan, a British-born author based on Vancouver Island. His writing ranges across children's books, novels, travel and practical non-fiction, alongside journalism, plays and publishing resources.
Our ambition is to make the collection easier to discover, with clear information about each book and links to verified author pages. We do not present unverified stock, prices or purchase options as though they are live.

Alongside promoting books, Chemainus Books is involved in publishing. That means paying attention to the full journey of a book: developing an idea, shaping and editing the manuscript, preparing a readable edition and presenting it to readers. We value careful production, clear communication and respect for the author’s voice.
Publishing enquiries are welcome, although specific services, submission arrangements, fees and turnaround times have not yet been announced on this website.
